Fryeburg, Maine – July 11, 1988

     On Sunday, July 10, 1988, a 34-year-old man rented a single-engine 1981 Piper Warrior at Beverly (Mass.) Municipal Airport and flew to Fryeburg, Maine.  The aircraft arrived safely at Fryeburg.  While taking off in the early morning hours of July 11th, the aircraft climbed to 3,700 feet before it suddenly went down in a wooded area off Route 113 in Fryeburg.  There area was shrouded in thick fog at the time.  Police were notified and a search was instituted and the pilot’s body was found with the aircraft.
