Narragansett Bay – October 11, 1942 

     At 3:15 p.m. on October 11, 1942, Aviation Radioman Stanley D Overfelt, 25, was killed when the aircraft he was on crashed in Narragansett Bay during dive bombing training.   No further details are available. 

     Mr. Overfelt was from Clarence, Missouri. According to his death certificate, he was assigned to VS-42.

     Update: August 13, 2015.   What may be the same incident is mentioned in a New York Times snippet with no title, dated October 12, 1942, which stated that an airplane believed to have been carrying two men went down in Narragansett Bay.  No names were given.
